Pride month is here!

All are welcome to take part in the celebration of love, regardless of whether they identify as LGBTQ or as allies. The month of June celebrates and supports LGBTQ issues and community members. This is a great time to honour your LGBT+ peers, learn a little more about LGBT+ history, celebrate differences, and consider ways that you can help to create a more inclusive society.

Here are a few ways that you can ally up the month of love-

  1. Learning the history of LGBTQA+

The purpose of Pride Month is to celebrate and remember the fearless trailblazers of the LGBTQ+ community throughout the month of June. As a result of the Stonewall Riots in Greenwich Village, New York in June 1969, the modern LGBTQ+ rights movement in the United States was born. The month of Pride is meant to be an affirming celebration of all that the LGBTQ+ community has accomplished, while also acknowledging the decades-long fight for equal rights. Learning about the month’s history can help you better understand the month and its origins. There are many resources to help you learn more about Pride Month and LGBTQ+ history, whether you read, watch a documentary, or visit a museum.

  1. Attend a Pride Parade

Pride Month can be celebrated in many different ways, but many enjoy the sights and sounds of Pride parades. Especially in cities such as San Francisco and New York, which have a strong LGBTQ+ community and long history of advocacy, pride parades are a beloved tradition. Pride parades are held in many cities worldwide, where celebrities, artists, politicians, and other influencers take part. In addition, Pride parades are a great way for children to experience the rich diversity of the LGBTQ+ community worldwide, as well as to show solidarity with the festival’s motto, “Love is love.” There are many learning opportunities at Pride parades and they are simply fun!

  1. LGBTQA+ films, series and literature

Developing a better understanding of the LGBTQ+ experience through films, TV shows, and literature is another great way to celebrate Pride Month. You and your loved ones can watch, read, and discuss a wide variety of LGBTQ+ movies and shows. Take some time to compile your personal playlist of queer favourites: the most influential books, films, and TV shows or make a point to watch or read something you’ve never seen or read before. Celebrate Pride Month by exploring the world of LGBTQ+ media.

Spend the month educating yourself and making the best of the opportunities to learn more about the community and ally up. It’s always good to learn more so that we can stand together with the community at all times.

Orion wishes you a wonderful Pride month!
